\u201cWhat\u2019s your love story?\u201d was uninstalled today.<\/span><\/p>\n

It had a wonderful run! \u00a0We installed the Friday before Valentine\u2019s Day, painting a broken heart across from a full heart in a small hallway in Heimbold. \u00a0The hearts were both pink. \u00a0The full heart said \u2018What\u2019s your love story?\u2019 in the middle, and the broken heart was left empty.<\/p>\n

We had a square of wall text and a small container taped to the wall filled with chalk for people to use to write on the hearts. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

First we taped out, freehand, both hearts. \u00a0Painted the full one, then painted the broken one. \u00a0They were not perfectly identical, but I don\u2019t think it detracted from the actual piece in any way. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Once painted and dry, neither Kadie nor I contributed. \u00a0We left it completely blank. \u00a0Slowly but surly, people started to participate. \u00a0People were responding really well to the prompt and understood that the broken heart was for heartbreaks\/sad things and the full heart was for happy things. \u00a0Sometimes there would be a random mismatch statement, but other than that, I think it was a clear project! \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our interaction worked exactly how we thought it would. \u00a0It was more successful than expected, actually. \u00a0Both hearts were full by the time we uninstalled. \u00a0There was little to no crass or demeaning things written, and other than a few people, anonymity was kept. \u00a0Kadie and I erased any names that people wrote on the hearts because we wanted it to stay away from that. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our interaction definitely created a magic circle. \u00a0We would see people stop in the hallway and talk about the heart, and then contribute. \u00a0It also created a sense of unity because of all the people that contributed to it, even if they weren\u2019t contributing or interacting directly with each other. \u00a0It also was a social object, because people would stop and talk about it and also talk to Angela about it. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
