Remix the City: Visual Code of Heimbold

Heimbold’s design falls in this increasingly popular category of architecture which is heavy on the odd angles (as in, angles that aren’t 90 degrees) and a very linear/geometric exterior design. This is reflected in buildings like Cooper Union. I am very limited in my knowledge of architecture, but I’ve noticed a lot of the newer buildings cropping up in Brooklyn and Philadelphia look like they were inspired by Matisse. I got a similar art-deco feel from Heimbold.

As we walked through Heimbold, I considered the conversation our class had earlier, where some sort of consensus was met that the building felt very “finished” and “finalized”. I dunno if I got that vibe. I felt like it was made to be reorganized. Many of the walls are movable and removable. Many of the surfaces are made out of cork so you can hang work anywhere with pins. I felt like with imagination and willpower, Heimbold to some degree allows you to craft it to your needs.
